Automated Rules

What are Automated Rules?

Automated rules let you make changes in your account automatically, based on settings and conditions you choose.

You can change your campaign targeting settings with the rules you create.  Using automated rules can save you time, by cutting down the need to monitor campaigns and make frequent, manual changes.

How to create a new Automated Rule?

You can create your new automated rule under "Campaign Management" -> "Manage Campaigns" tab Campaign Management" -> "Automated Rules" tab.

  • Rule Name: Set a meaningful name for your rule.
  • Campaign: Select some campaigns that you would like to apply the rule to.
  • Dimension: Choose one dimension to optimise.
  • Using Data from: The rule will be running based on the time range you have set.
  • If & Then: Set the conditions of your rule. Currently we only support including or excluding different records by dimension, which is very much alike the operations in website interface.
  • Frequency: Tell us when to run this rule.
  • Execution Type: Tell us how to execute this rule. 
    "Modify Based on Current Settings" means: this rule will try to add or remove some targeting settings based on your current settings.
    "Replace Current Setttings" means: this rule will replace your campaign's current settings completely when the rule is executed.
    

For example, as seen in the screenshot above, the rule named "TEST Inventory Seller" will run at 3 AM, December 12th, 2014 (UTC Time). This rule will run only once, and will be using data of December 12th, as set in the "Frequency" and "Using Data from" field.
If the rule finds out any inventory sellers that are not performing well (Spend > $2  and CTR < 1%), it will exclude those sellers automatically. 

Note: If you set the "Execution Type" to be "Modify Based on Current Settings", your rule will check current settings automatically. 
If you already exclude some inventory sellers, and your rule is to exclude inventory sellers as well, the sellers you excluded may be modified by your rule.
That is: your rule may exclude some more inventory sellers based on the conditions you have set.
However, if you already exclude some inventory sellers for one campaign, yet your rule is to include inventory sellers as well, this rule will NOT apply to this specific campaign due to conflict settings.

You can also create rules to optimize other dimensions, running at a different frequency level.




e.g. If you set "Every 3 Hours" for frequency, it means that the rule will be run every 3 hours (at UTC Time 00:00 , 03:00, 06:00, 09:00, 12:00, 15:00, 18:00, etc) to optimize your targets according to the past history data.

How to manage my Automated Rules?


Simply go to "Campaign Management" -> "Automated Rules" tab, you will find all the rules you have created.
If you need to know what your rule has done, just go to "Logs" to inspect all the running logs of your rule. Everything is under your control.
 

Any recommendation on setting the Automated Rules?


We would recommend you to set up multiple "if" conditions to optimize your campaign result.

For example, you can set If "spend > ***" and "Impressions < ***" Then "Exclude"
                     Or  If "Impressions > ***" and "Clicks/Conversions < ***" Then "Exclude"

We do not recommend you to simply set If "CTR < ***" 
Then "Exclude or "CR < ***" Then "Exclude". In that case, some publishers that are bringing conversions to you will be excluded.
